Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan has released a statement saying the recent revelations concerning penalty points and garda breath test discrepancies are "totally unacceptable".

She also said it is inevitable that more examples of bad practice will be identified within An Garda Siochana.

Almost 15,000 people who were prosecuted for road traffic offences are to have their convictions quashed due to garda error.

The Garda Commissioner also said that it is important the force makes information public no matter how negative it is, in a bid to sustain public trust.
