The pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, is imposing controls to prevent its drugs being used to execute death row inmates.
The move apparently shuts off the last remaining open-market source of drugs for executions in the US.
The company objects to the use of its products in lethal injections, saying its medicines are for saving or improving lives.
