Gardai say it may take up to a year to fully establish the cause of a light aircraft accident that killed two men in Kildare on Thursday evening.

The two men who died in the crash, in Belan near Athy, have been named as 70 year old James Price and 58 year old Aidan Rowsome.

The remains of the wreckage will be further examined today at the air accident investigation facility in Gormanston, County Meath.

Garda Superintendent Martin Walker has been speaking to crash investigators.

He says there was no flight recorder on the plane because it's not required by law on smaller aircraft.

Superintendent Walker says the final determination into the cause of air accidents takes up to a year.
