IT'S BEEN A WEEK where scandals - of State, religion and both - have continued to cast lengthy shadows across Leinster House and beyond.

We've had more details of traumatic abuse at a foster home endorsed by the State, while we've also struggled again to deal with the trauma of the discovery of human remains in Tuam.

The latter has led to bigger questions: how many more mass graves might there be? And how does a 21st Century nation deal with the horrors of its 20th Century history?

And with so many other failings at our doorstep, is it time we called time on this incarnation of Ireland?
