Police in the North have stopped a contentious anti-internment parade making its way through Belfast.

The Parade’s Commission had given the march the go-ahead for today- however it was on the strict condition that the parade left the city centre by no later than 1.30pm.

The Anti-Internment League defied the Parades Commission and began walking an hour after they were supposed to finish.

The PSNI say they are upholding the Parade's Commission ruling and have stopped marchers on the corner of the Oldpark Road and Rosapenna Street.

5,000 Republicans are estimated to be taking part in the anti-internment parade, while three opposition Loyalist parades are running along side.
