Police in Canada have confirmed tonight the Ottawa gunman acted alone.

Corporal Nathan Cirillo was fatally shot by Michael Zehaf-Bibeau as he guarded the National War Memorial.

The gunman then stormed the Canadian parliament, but was shot dead by sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers.
