Police in the North do not believe dissident republicans were behind the shooting dead of a former IRA commander in Belfast this morning.
Gerard Jock Davison was killed in broad daylight in Welsh Street at around 9am on his way to work in a nearby community centre.
At a press conference in Belfast, the PSNI also said they do not believe the attack was sectarian.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan has condemned the shooting - describing it as a cold-blooded murder.
Sinn Fein has described it as "shocking" and "brutal".
