The Pope has given his backing to the slapping of naughty children.

Speaking about fatherhood to his weekly audience at the Vatican earlier this week, Pope Francis recalled meeting a father who told him he hit his children when they misbehaved.

The pontiff said the man was right, that he should punish and then move on.

Recently Pope Francis said anyone who insulted his mother could expect to be punched.
