President Michael D Higgins has attended an ANZAC day ceremony in Turkey to mark 100 years since the start of the Gallipoli campaign of World War 1.

Thousands of Irish men died during the Turkish campaign, with the death toll on the Allied and Turkish sides totalling over 100,000.

The Prime Ministers of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand, along with Britain's Prince Charles were among the dignataries attending the ceremony.

In Dublin, hundreds have also attended a dawn ANZAC Day memorial service.

Representatives from New Zealand, Australia, Turkey and Ireland spoke at the ceremony at the Grangegorman Military cemetery.

The Tánaiste Joan Burton addressed the event, and says it's important to remember those who died in Gallipoli:
