President Michael D Higgins has signed a book of condolence at the French embassy in Dublin.
He and the French ambassador to Ireland, Jean-Pierre Thebault, led a minute's silence to the victims of Friday's attacks.
The leaders of Ireland's Islamic community were among those present to express their sympathies with the French people.
A minute's silence was impeccably observed at 11am Irish time, the equivalent of noon in Paris, where a minute's silence was also observed.
Afterwards, those in attendance broke into a spontaneous rendition of La Marseillaise.
