Patients with private health insurance will have to pay for the use of public hospital beds for the first time.
According to the Irish independent, hospital managers have been told to bill insurers even if the customer is only on a trolley in a corridor.
There are fears the move will drive up the cost of health insurance for families and lead to hospitals prioritising those with cover.
