The Government will not be re-writing or publishing a new proclamation, despite earlier comments by the Taoiseach.

Enda Kenny said this afternoon they wanted "to engage people, young and not so young, both in the reflections on the proclamation, on the drafting of a new proclamation".

But a spokesperson says that the Taoiseach was referring to a school project to be announced this evening as part of the commemorations for the 1916 rising.

The spokesperson says what is planned is an academic exercise in re-imagining Ireland in terms of the original proclamation.
