Details of new proposed laws to support a better work-life balance have been published by the government.

Work Life Balance Bill, aims to bring in a range of measures to promote family-friendly work practices and support women in the work force.

If approved, bill would also see the introduction of paid leave of up to 5 days for victims of domestic violence.

Employers will also be supported to develop domestic violence policies.

The bill would also bring in a right for parents and carers to request flexible working arrangements for caring purposes.

A right to time off for medical care purposes, for employees with children up to age 12 and carers, is also included in the proposals.

The entitlement to take breastfeeding breaks at work, for new mothers, would also be extended from 6 months to 2 years.

Children's Minister Roderick O'Gorman says the bill will provide significant assistance to those who are suffering domestic, sexual or gender-based violence.
