Protests have escalated as the UK’s General Election comes down to its final two days of campaigning.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has condemned nationalist demonstrators who caused scuffles at a Labour Party campaign event involving comedian Eddie Izzard in Glasgow.

The SNP is expected to win most of Scotland’s 59 Westminster seats and could tip the balance of power in what’s been called the most important British election in decades.

David Cameron was targeted by anti-austerity demonstrators in the city of Bath and an had an egg thrown at him from the crowd.

The escalating protests come amid growing uncertainty about the election’s result with many analysts predicting weeks of political stalemate even after polling day on Thursday.

That instability won’t be welcomed by Britain’s trading partners including Ireland.
