Members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association working at University College Hospital in Galway have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action. (83%-17%)

Nurses are angry about the ongoing problem of staff shortages at the facility.

Union officials say patient safety is being compromised because of the low staffing levels in the 45 bed acute psychiatric unit.

But General Secretary of the PNA Des Kavanagh says this industrial action may be avoided:
