The Queen will celebrate her 90th birthday this evening with a private family party.

She is Britain's longest-serving monarch.

At midday, guns were fired in salute in London's Hyde Park and at Edinburgh Castle.

Queen Elizabeth will also light the first of hundreds of beacons that are going to burn across the UK.

Crowds of well-wishers lined the streets of Windsor to wish the Queen a happy 90th.

At lunchtime, she did a walkabout and met some other nonagenarians.
