TDs are set to pass a bill which would lead to a referendum on public ownership of the water network.
It's after Fianna Fáil said it would support the Bill from Independents4Change TD Joan Collins, which is already backed by a large number of independents and left-wing TDs.
The government says it is currently engaging with opposition parties and has not yet decided its position, ahead of a vote in the Dáil on Thursday lunchtime.
However the vote marks only the first stage for the Bill, which would still need to be passed by a Dáil committee and by the Seanad.
