Plans to reopen special schools and classes this week have been thrown into doubt.

It's after the Irish National Teachers Organisation last night called on the Department to "reconsider" Thursday's planned return.

It says teachers' "grave safety concerns" have not been adequately addressed.

There are calls on Education Minister Norma Foley to now produce an appropriate education plan for children with special needs.

Talks are to continue today ahead of the proposed re-opening of schools on Thursday.
