The Child and Family Agency will today publish reports into deaths and serious incidents relating to children in state care.

At least one is expected to highlight serious gaps in social services.

Zara King reports.

These reports come at a time when concern is growing over the funding going into Ireland's child protection services.

There are currently about 200 vacancies in social work teams around the country, and hundreds of children don't have an allocated social worker.

According to the Irish Times, today's release will outline a failure to recognise the risks faced by Danny Talbot, who was 19 when he died of an apparent drug overdose while in state care.

A total of five reports will be released on the deaths and serious incidents relating to young people in the system.

They've been carried out by a National Review Panel in accordance with guidance from HIQA.
