The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald is expected to issue an apology today to two Roma families, whose children were removed from them.
The incidents happened in Counties Dublin and Westmeath last year, after concerns were raised with Gardai about their identities.
In Tallaght, a seven-year-old girl was removed from her Roma family by Gardai and placed in the care of the State for a number of days, with a similar case involving a two-year-old boy in Athlone.
DNA tests revealed the children were living with their respective parents.
A report on the incidents, carried out by the Children's Ombudsman Emily Logan, is to be published later today.
