#RoseOfTralee has been trending worldwide with 52 thousand tweets about the event being sent over the past two days.

It peaked just before half past eleven last night when Elysha Brennan was crowned this year's winner - with 140 tweets per minute.

Organisers of the event handed over the Rose of Tralee account for the two nights of the live shows to the Roses themselves who tweeted selfies and details about what was going on backstage.  

I've been speaking to social media expert Darragh Doyle about how well the organisers of the festival embraced social media to document the event:
