Rural communities protest against wind turbines

Anti wind turbine protesters say the Government’s energy policy is flawed, and are calling for a re-think.

Residents of rural communities around Ireland say wind farms will destroy the countryside, and will deliver miniscule reductions in CO2 emissions.

Juliette Gash reports;

 

However, the Irish Wind Energy Association says wind energy is essential if Ireland is to meet its sustainable energy targets for Europe.

Kenneth Matthews is Chief Executive of IWEA, which represents wind energy companies in Ireland.

He says each wind turbine will displace 2,400 tonnes worth of CO2 emissions from fossil fuels each year;
