Russia has accused the UK of inventing a "fake story" and warned they're "playing with fire" over the Salisbury spy poisoning.

An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council took place last night at Moscow's request to discuss the issue.

The British government has accused Russia of responsibility, while Russia has vehemently denied any role in the attack.

Britain's UN representative rejected Russia's request to take part in the investigation into the nerve agent attack on Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

Russia's Vasily Nebenzya Britain's past role in the Iraq war was proof it can't be trusted, saying: "Couldn't you come up with a better fake story? We all know the worth of British intelligence information, based on the experience with Tony Blair."

Britain's UN representative rejected Russia's request to take part in the investigation into the nerve agent attack on Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

Karen Pierce said it would be like an arsonist investigating his own fire.

She added: “There is one country, Russia, which is playing a fast and loose with our collective security and the international institutions that protect us.”

Meanwhile, it's emerged two guinea pigs were found dead at the home of poisoned spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury - while his cat had to be put down.

The information has been revealed by the British government after a demand from Russia about the pets.

Police found the highest concentration of the nerve agent on the front door of the house.

Yesterday, Yulia Skripal gave her first statement since the attack - saying her "strength is growing daily" after waking up over a week ago.
