Consumers can save more than 12 hundred euro by shopping around for motor insurance.
A new survey by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has found the potential savings vary according to the level of cover required and the circumstances of the individual.
In the case of one profile surveyed, an increase in penalty points from 2 to 6 points resulted in a 37 percent jump in the price of comprehensive cover.
