A school in Co. Meath has closed today as a precaution over the coronavirus.

The primary school, which has around 360 students, says it is awaiting more information from the HSE.

It will reopen tomorrow according to the Department of Health.

The Department says "no school has been closed as part of the ongoing contact tracing process regarding the second confirmed case of Covid19."

The woman, who is from the east of the country, had returned from Northern Italy.

The DOH says "It is essential that any decisions regarding school closures in relation to Covid-19 are proportionate, necessary and based on specific public health advice. No other response is appropriate.

The Departments of Health and Education and Skills are in constant communication regarding Ireland's responsiveness to Covid19."

Meanwhile, the Italian government's announced all schools and universities are to close for two weeks because of Covid-19.

79 people have died from it in the country - making it the deadliest reported outbreak outside China.
