Schools are to be given new advice on the use of vending machines.
The Minister for Education says he's developing guidelines on the best way for schools to promote healthy eating.
It comes after a survey of all schools in 2012 noted a worrying number of vending machines selling junk food to secondary students.
Minister Ruairi Quinn says he can't dictate what food is sold in vending machines in schools, he is keen to offer a variety of healthy alternatives for students.
The survey also found that over 90 per cent of secondary schools were failing to offer students the recommended two hours a week of P.E. classes.
