Schools are to make provisions for transgender students.

The Department of Education has held talks on the issue aimed at offering assistance to students.  They also want transgender students to be recognised.

Students can undergo a sex change from the age of 16 - this raises a number of issues for any student in a single sex school.

Recent gender recognition legislation has thrown the issue into sharp focus.

The talks have so far focused on issues around uniforms and changing rooms.
