Merrion Strand is one of six bathing spots around the country that have failed to meet minimum water standards.
The others listed in the report by the Environmental Protection Agency include Youghal in Cork, Duncannon in Wexford and Ballyloughane in Galway.
Overall more than 90 per cent of Irish Bathing waters met EU standards this year.
