A search and rescue operation has been launched for a Cork man missing in the United States.

David O'Sullivan from Middleton has not been seen since early April.

It is understood he set off to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, which can take around five months to complete - but he has failed to make contact with friends and family since April.

Mr O'Sullivan is said to have arrived in Idylwild, California on April 5th, and emailed his parents two days later. They have not heard from him since.

There has been no positive sighting of David, although after initially contacting police here his family had received information that his bank account had been active. 

However, after several more weeks passed without contact, he has been reported as a missing person to Irish, American and international agencies.

A Facebook page has been set up as part of efforts bid to help find David.
