A US court's agreed to delay, until next year, the sentencing of Donald Trump's former national security adviser for lying to the FBI.

Michael Flynn admitted last year that he wasn't truthful when he discussed contact with the then Russian ambassador to the US Sergei Kislyak.

At today's hearing a judge told him "arguably you sold your country out."

Warning Mr. Flynn of possible jail time, the judge offered him the option of delaying the sentence until he completes a cooperation agreement with federal prosecutors - an offer Mr. Flynn accepted.

The judge did not set a new date for sentencing but asked for a status report by March 13.
