A 17 year old male has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Co Offaly.
A man in his 50Â’s sustained serious head injuries during an attack which occured on the Main street in Birr at around 3 o'clock this afternoon.
He was air lifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as serious.
The 17 year old is being held at Birr Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
