Gardai in Loughrea are investigating a single vehicle serious traffic collision that occurred outside the town early this morning.
The collision occured on the N66 Loughrea to Gort Road, approximately 3km outside the town at 4:30am.
A male aged 20 years was seriously injured when the car he was a passenger in collided with a ditch.
He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he remains in a serious condition.
Both the driver and the second passenger were uninjured.
The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place.
Forensic collision investigators have been notified.
