Communities along the river Shannon are bracing themselves for flooding.

Storm Frank is due to make landfall on Tuesday bringing heavy rain and strong winds with it.

70 millimetres of rain are expected to pour down on us between tomorrow and Wednesday lunchtime.

Director of Services for Westmeath County Council Barry Kehoe says given the already high levels on the river Shannon we're in difficult territory.

Meanwhile - in County Longford the community of Newtowncashel is being praised for helping to allow a funeral go ahead today - despite serious flooding.

John Clarke died in Christmas morning and today he was brought by tractor and trailer to Castle Island cemetery.

The access roadway to the graveyard is underwater and local people have spent the past few days making the route safe for the procession.

Local Cllr and undertaker Gerard Farrell outlines how they managed the situation.
