The Higher Education Minister says some covid restrictions will ease next month but it won’t be much.

Simon Harris has suggested the 5 kilometre rule will change as he says it’s driving people ‘absolutely bonkers’.

Some rural Government TDs have also called for it to scrapped and also want mass to resume.

A final decision on this, as well as construction and outdoor gatherings, is expected next week.

Meanwhile, Five new walk-in covid testing centres are opening this morning and aim to test 500 people a day.

They're located where case numbers are high and include Blanchardstown, Tallaght and Tullamore.

It's available to those over 16, who live within 5km of the location and have no symptoms of the virus.

Health officials are hoping to catch asymptomatic cases as one in five patients with covid have no symptoms.
