A new opinion poll shows Sinn Féin as the most popular party in the country, with gains for others at the expense of independents.

The survey for tomorrow's Sunday Independent also shows nearly three quarters of people don't believe Leo Varadkar coming out as a gay man has any influence over whether he should be Taoiseach.

The Millward Brown poll for the Sunday Independent has Sinn féin on 26%, up 1 point.

Fine Gael go up 3 points to 25%, Fianna Fáil on 19% is up 1 point and Labour goes up a similar amount to 5%.

Independents take all the losses down 9 to 23%.

Satisfaction with the Government goes up 4 to 23%, while the four main party leaders see their satisfaction with voters go up.

72% of those polled say Leo Varadkar being gay makes no difference to his chances of being Taoiseach.

On the same sex marriage referendum 62% intend to vote Yes, 16% say no and almost a quarter don't know.

Support for the holding of a repeal the 8th amendment referendum remains unchanged at 56%, with nearly a third saying they dion't know.

On water charges 40 % say they'll definitely pay the bills, 30% say they definitely won't.
