Sinn Féin looks set to make serious gains based on early tallies of votes across the country.

The party is going to comfortably top the poll in a number of constituencies leaving Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil candidates in a straight shoot-out for final seats.

It looks as though a number of constituencies will see Sinn Féin comfortably top the poll like Dublin Central, Waterford and Donegal

The party is also well positioned to take first ever seats in Kildare South, Galway West and Meath East.

Areas like Dublin Fingal, Cork South Central and Cork East where Sinn Féin were seen as vulnerable they're also going to hold seats.

Sitting Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil candidates across the country have seen their share of the vote fall and there will be incredibly tight races for the final seats.

While a number of counting centres have been hit by flooding and leaky roofs it's clear the tide has gone out a bit for the civil war parties, and the Green wave has been overtaken by a Sinn Féin surge.

Still early days yet though and a long way to go before we know the final makeup of this Dáil.
