SIPTU seeks meeting with Clerys liquidator

SIPTU is calling on the liquidators of Clery's Department store to meet with them. 

Concern is mounting among workers about when they will receive any money owed to them. 

Liquidators from KPMG have taken over the store following its shock closure on Friday evening - with the loss of up to 400 jobs. 

SIPTU Shop Steward Gerry Markey has worked at Clery's on O'Connell street for 34 years and says the company should be made pay - and the taxpayer shouldn't suffer because of the shop's closure: 

The Consumers Association of Ireland is calling on the Government to make customers a special priority in the Clerys liquidation.

There's currently no legislation to protect people who have paid cash deposits or bought vouchers in shops that go under.
