Six schoolchildren are being treated in hospital after inhaling chemicals at a swimming pool in Co. Kildare.

They were part of a group of 25 children at the pool on the campus of NUI Maynooth when vapour from the pool's plant room entered the air conditioning system during a maintenance operation.

19 children were assessed at the scene and allowed to return to school.

Principal of Maynooth Educate Together, Marie Hand explained what happened.
