It's World Emoji Day.
These 'picture letters' were first discovered in Japan in the ninties to mimic face to face gestures.
But they've taken on a life of their own and are now an integral part of how people communicate online.
Tennis stars Roger Federer and Andy Murray sprinkle their tweets with them along with a host of other celebrities.
But is it haunting the way we communicate?
Should we just stick to using our words?
And, how old is TOO old for a winky face?
