The detention centre for young men St Patricks Institution in Dublin is to be closed after the Inspector of Prisons Judge Michael Reilly reported breaches of the fundamental rights of prisoners.
The Justice Minister announced the facility will close in 6 months after reading another damning report on St Patricks.
The facility caters for over 200 prisoners and they will be transferred to Wheatfield Prison for the time being.
The Irish Penal Reform Trust says it's vital that time commitments are adhered to and that young offenders are not left languishing in Wheatfield.
