A tense standoff in Dublin's City centre has ended safely.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to a building on College Green after a man in his 20's was spotted on the roof of a five story building this morning.

Fire brigade, ambulance personnel and Gardai attended the scene.

Dame Street was closed for a number of hours contributing to traffic chaos in the city centre.

However full access has been restored to College Green and Dame Street

Hundreds of onlookers gathered for a number of hours around the Garda cordon put in place to allow emergency services deal with the incident.

The man at the centre of this scare - is understood to have initially climbed the roof of the Abercrombie and Fitch store on Dame Street before moving to the higher five-storey Ulster Bank building.

He had been observed moving across a number of positions along the ledge.
