Star Wars toys have now overtaken merchandise sales from favourite children’s film Frozen.

This comes after the movies international release in cinemas yesterday and months of build to the debut.

Parents, who were children in the 80’s and 90’s, are buying toys to share with their children, while youngsters are clamouring for the latest Star Wars characters.

With the Star Wars film, Episode VII: The Force Awakens, set to show in cinemas tonight, Irish parents have already snapped up more toys than the other children’s favourite films Frozen and Minions.

Lightsabers, RC Droid BB-8 and Lego Star Wars products are the most popular products.

Frozen toys are still a popular purchase, being second in the list closely followed by Minion merchandise.
