One man has died and two men have been injured in a single vehicle crash involving a stolen taxi in Dublin.

The incident happened in the city centre at around 2.40 am.

Gardai say the taxi in which the men were travelling hit a lock bridge on North Wall Quay.

One man died at the scene, while a second man is in a critical condition at the Mater hospital, and the third man received minor injuries.

It's understood the taxi was stolen from its owner prior to the collision.

North Wall Quay is closed to traffic in both directions at the Convention Centre following the crash.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was on North Wall Quay between 2am and 3am, to contact Store Street Garda Station.

This latest death brings to four the number of people killed on the countries roads this bank holiday weekend.
