Met Eireann has upgraded its storm warning to a status Red alert.
Disruption to power supplies and possible storm damage are expected later this evening - particularly in the south and west.
The worst affected areas will be Counties Wexford, Waterford, Mayo, Galway, Clare and Kerry.
The Met Eireann storm alert is in effect from 4 o clock this afternoon through to tomorrow afternoon.
They're forecasting very stormy conditions, with severe damaging gusts of up to 140 kilometres per hour expected, reaching 150 kilometres per hour in exposed coastal areas.
