Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather today's heavy rain come following days of wet conditions.
"We've had over 50 mm of rain in parts of Wicklow since 8 pm yesterday evening, but the problem is it's fallen on top of over 140 millimeters that already fell in the last seven days.
"In January typically we'd be looking at about 80 mm to 100 mm for the full month of January, and we've seen that amount now in the space of seven days".
