Mayo County Council is trying to crack down on noise disturbance and drunken brawls, by giving drinkers lollipops as they leave nightclubs.
The sweets will be given out at the doors of nightclubs and late bars in the hope that people won't be able to shout or cause a disturbance while sucking on them.
The number of assaults in December is usually almost a third higher than in January or February.
Mayo Council are hoping the lollipops will calm people down, and be "like giving candy to a drunken baby."
