Plans to ban swearing in a town centre have fallen foul of the law

Councillors in Rochdale near Manchester wanted to introduce a £1000 fine for anyone caught using abusive language or cursing, saying it was putting off visitors

But police said it would be too difficult to enforce

The councillors did however approve bans on skateboarding, bikes, chuggers and loud revving of cars.
