Talks aimed at averting next week's strike action by nurses in emergency departments have broken down without agreement.

The ongoing row relates to overcrowding at emergency departments.

The talks between the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation and Health Service management were chaired by the Workplace Relations Commission.

The strike is due to go ahead on the 15th of December and further stoppages are planned for the 12th and 26th of January.
