Talks on new cabinet underway at Government Buildings

Joan Burton says she's looking forward to a "full and a frank discussion" with the Taoiseach about the imminent cabinet reshuffle.

The new Labour leader is meeting Enda Kenny today for the first time since her appointment as Tánaiste on Friday.

However both leaders are refusing to be drawn on their demands for the coalition, or how long the reshuffle may take.

The talks won't entail a full renegotiation of the programme for government - but nonetheless both sides will go into the talks with goals of their own.

Both parties are eyeing up the position of EU Commissioner, while each currently holds cabinet jobs the other party would like to take.

But arriving at Government Buildings this morning for the first time as Tánaiste, Joan Burton was outlining the common ground between herself and Enda Kenny:

The Taoiseach meanwhile was refusing ot be drawn on speculation about which jobs might change hands, and who could be turfed out of cabinet:

 

Advisors for both sides say nothing is agreed until everything is agreed - and so it could be well into the week before the shape of the new cabinet becomes clear.
