Tánaiste Joan Burton is promising an extra €25 per week over the next 5 years for old age pensioners.
The Labour leader says pensions should rise in line with expected annual inflation of 2%.
That would mean raising the weekly payment by €5 each year, bringing the new total to €257 per week.
But journalist Sinead Ryan, who's a member of the Pensions Council, says the Tánaiste will need to outline how the increase will be funded:
